Taking advantage of the LJ to natter on about my deep (not) thoughts about important (not) TV shows.  Includes  opinions, spoilers and speculations, and a couple of slashy references.

Stargate SG-1

I was hoping that the final episodes of SG-1 would be team stories harkening back to the good old days of the show.  Unfortunately, to me they’re falling into the same pattern as back in season 5, when my glorious love affair with the show began to falter.  They’re having too many episodes where the team is separated, with one or more of them off somewhere else, not part of the team.  And from the previews it looks like next week it’s Teal’c’s turn to be isolated.  And it looks like they’re all so jaded that terrible things can happen to them, especially Daniel, and they barely show their worry or concern.  If some of this stuff happened to a friend of mine, I’d be frantic.  A show has definitely been on too long when it’s the new characters (Vala and Cam) who show the most emotion.

Not that there aren’t good moments.  I thought Daniel being turned into a Prior was greatly under utilized – over and done within one episode.  But at least Jack and Daniel were back together for a while, as it should be.  There was good stuff there.  And in the episode where they are mistaken for terrorists, there were some very funny bits, and Daniel got to be the snarky character we love.

It kind of bugs me how well they all get along with Ba’al.  He tortured and killed Jack repeatedly!  There’s no rationalization that makes it okay to work with him.  *pouts*

I’m not broken up that the show will end, though I’m sorry on behalf of the people who are still engaged with it.  I’ve been trying (not very successfully) to avoid spoilers, but can’t help but have heard that certain SG1 cast will be on Atlantis next year.  Not too happy about that.  Atlantis has been working so well for me as it is, but I guess good things don’t last forever.

Stargate SG-A

I’m still totally addicted to SG-A.  In love with Rodney and Team Sheppard and some of the recurring characters.  And the spate of fanfic-y stories is a joy.  And the lovely McShep buddy moments. It has such a light and quirky energy compared with SG1.  That’s why I’m hoping it won’t be dragged down next season.

I agree with what some have said that Kolya’s death was anticlimactic.  I would have loved an angsty, dramatic h/c episode, where Kolya does capture Rodney (and the others, that would be okay, too) and is very mean to him.  THEN John comes in and kills him for hurting his man, angry and emo.  In the episode Kolya does threaten McKay, but it’s over so quickly, and so much attention is wasted on Lucius.

I’m starting to have trouble remembering what has happened in canon, and what is from fanfic.  Does that happen to anyone else?

NCIS

Who else is unsurprised to find that Tony’s relationship was part of his undercover assignment?  It’s a relief, since there’s nothing worse than major characters having relationships with OC’s.  There’s hope that it will be over fairly early into next season.  I hope.

I just wish Tony’s thread wasn’t connected to Jenny, because I can’t bring myself to give a f*ck about her or anything to do with her.  I’m not opposed to a female Director, just one that’s bad at her job.  I like Gibbs well enough, but I hate, hate how he treats her – with no respect at all – and she lets him get away with it.  Not working for me.

I am still curious about the seed they planted in like the second episode of the season, where the Israelis think Ziva and Tony are having an affair because he’s been seen coming out of her house at odd hours.  Then nothing all season, until in the last ep Ducky says she’s acting like a worried lover.  Is there something there?  It’s unusual for a show to take such a long time to develop a plot line.  They were clearly sure the show would be renewed another year.

I like Ziva, and hope she gets more to do next season.  And Ducky, too, of course.

Numb3rs

I’ve been losing interest in Numb3rs this season.  It’s been so predictable:  crime to solve, Charlie solves it, the team runs around with guns, Don doesn’t do much of anything.  I liked the early seasons, with the more quirky and insecure Charlie and more Don/Charlie interaction.  And the less said about poor Amita the better.  She’s suffering from pointless love-interest window-dressing writing.

I liked the last episode, though.  It was more exciting and engaging than most have been this season, and it’s always good when Charlie is put into some danger.  But the thing with Colby – huh?  Even if it is just a set up for him to be a double agent, it’s still a little abrupt, and inexplicable.  Why would the Chinese have a spy in the FBI field office?  Aside from perhaps some Homeland Security inside info, what could he possibly tell them?  The best part, though, was David’s reaction.  The sudden, stunning betrayal by his lover!  Woobie!

It may have just been me, but I picture that after the closing scene, Alan excuses himself to go to bed, and Charlie crawls across the floor to wrap himself around Don.  They just hold each other for comfort from their traumas.  Sigh.  And maybe there’s sex, too.  That would be okay.

Dancing with the Stars

My one guilty reality show addiction!  So happy Apolo won.  I was rooting for him from the start.  He’s just the cutest thing ever, and became a really great dancer.  I wish Laila had been the other finalist instead of Joey.  I love Laila’s suffer no fools, play no coy games style.  She was my second choice.  Even though he’s obviously a pretty good dancer, I never got a good vibe from Joey – just something not right about him.  *shrugs*

I did find myself liking Ian, though.  His earnestness was kind of endearing.  The judges were strangely hard on him.  He was dancing way better than some of the ones they praised.  What’s that about?  And Cheryl is my favorite pro dancer.  Yeah, Apolo, Laila and Ian as the final three would have been best.

It was funny how people seemed to be voting for Billy Ray just to be perverse.  He was a terrible dancer and should have been voted off – and he WANTED to be voted off.  I think people voted for him as a joke, but I found it annoying.  JMHO

Can’t wait for the next season!
