Nabbed from [profile] tipper_green . The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them ;-)

I went through a period as a young teen when I felt I would not be an educated person if I hadn't read the classics, so I actually do fairly well with this. Good thing I did it then, 'cause now I mostly read fanfic. ;}

Oh, and the Gabriel Garcia Marquez I read in Spanish!

Totally chuffed to have won a Numb3rs Award!  Especially when I get a gorgeous winner's button like this.  Is it amazing, or what?

It's for a Don/Charlie fic, Rhapsody.  Made my day!
All winners here.

This made me smile very much. :)

Apparently he's now singing this in concert as 'The Doctor and I'.

Torchwood meet-up tomorrow in NYC!  I've been working way too much lately, longer and longer hours, but tomorrow will be play time and beer!

In other news, The Things We Do has been nominated for yet another award.  This is an old story from way back when I was still writing het, but it keeps being consistently nominated over the years (is currently also up for a Stargatefan Award).  I tend to think of it as one person *waves if it's you* who really likes it and goes around nominating it, because I was never aware of it having a particularly large following.   Not complaining at all!  It's especially nice when someone remembers the old fics.  It's just weird because of those three SG-1 Team/Het fics, Unwanted Attention is by far my personal favorite, probably because, though the overtones were there throughout, it moves more in the direction of slash than the others.  *g*

I think this qualifies as good news:  I'm planning to give my notice at work next week.  As scary as the prospect of unemployment in NYC is, it's also exciting to start a new chapter of life!

Dear f-list,

Would anyone be willing to beta a short SGA story for me?  It's only 3,000 words, a fairly light John/Rodney h/c first time (R rated, max) that was written for my Sweet Charity winner?  Your offer of help will be much appreciated!

I've been thinking about the oddity that is fandom lately, provoked by  being in a novel position in my most recent fandom love, Torchwood/Doctor Who.  [personal profile] karaokegal had some interesting thoughts on it, but I'll clutter my own journal with mine, rather than hers.

In a major departure from my usual writing style, I now have three stories on the go at the same time:

What Doesn't Kill You:  Jack/Ten
Commercial Properties:  Jack/Ten, sequel to Starting Over
mumble, mumble, cough - as yet untitled:  John/Rodney - owed to my Sweet Charity winner, but with which I am Not Pleased.

Between my hard drive and lj memories I now have in excess of 200 stories saved To Be  Read.  I despair.  I despair of ever getting caught up, and I know there are such good things sitting there waiting for me to enjoy them!

[personal profile] ausmac just turned me on to Primeval, and I swore no more fandoms!

It's totally getting to be time to quit my job and sit at home playing in fandom all day.
I'm officially promising myself to not read any more episode reviews.  Oh, it's nice when someone liked the episode and we can share the excitement, but I keep getting blindsided by reviews that turn negative.  Of course, there's probably no episode of any TV show that couldn't be done better (in other words, I would have liked them to do things to suit me), but the point is to *enjoy* our shows!  Otherwise, why bother?

I don't understand the bitch-fests week after week, gleefully dissecting every flaw.  Because I want to enjoy my shows I use my own patented 'Glasses of Denial'.  Gaping plot holes?  Inconsistencies?  Questionable characterization?  Moments of 'No!  Don't do that!'  Noted and put aside so I can concentrate on Jack's smile or Rodney's woobie face - and the other good stuff.  The 'Glasses of Denial' improve the quality of my life.  ;)

Avoiding reading reviews and episode discussions will mean missing out on the insightful comments that help me appreciate the shows more, but I've been finding that benefit outweighed by how much the negativity/sniping/wank is 'harshing my squee', as it were.  Since folks apparently do get something out of ripping holes in the creative productions nice people have gone to a lot of effort to produce for our entertainment, they should totally go ahead and rip away.  I'm going to opt out, though.

So yes, SGA Outcast squee seems to be centralized here this time, but I want to document the milestone, too.

My pre-ordered Torchwood videos just arrived (along with S1 of DW), and I have the day off of work! This is going to be a good day - especially as it's too friggin' bloody cold to go outside.

The package says 'As seen on BBC America'. I hope that doesn't mean they're edited down from the British version.

I did it! Signed up to auction a story on Sweet Charity - to benefit the Writer's Guild Foundation. So bid for a Torchwood/Doctor Who or SGA story from me, or for some other desire you have. You name it, someone's offering it!

I totally can't wait for the new series of TW! This trailer isn't the one with James Marsters, but it's pretty funny, too - the blowfish in the sportscar! LOL I hope they keep up with the humor this series. They're so cute when they're being silly.
