Title: Hearing Things
Author: Joolz
Genre: Torchwood/Doctor Who Crossover, Hurt/Comfort, Angst
Rating: R (for violence – there’s no sex)
Characters/Pairings: Jack, Tenth Doctor, Martha, Master, Torchwood Team;  Jack/Doctor pre-slash, with hints of Jack/Ianto, Doctor/Master.
Season/Spoilers: Set in early TW S2, with references to the DW S3 Finale Arc, and to the Master’s past during Classic Who.
Word Count: 16,800
Summary: Jack’s mind is playing tricks on him. Or is it something more sinister?
Notes: This has taken about a year to write, as my fan-fiction muse seems to be reinventing herself as a non-fiction muse. But I wanted to finish it up and get it shared with you all!
Many thanks as always to my steadfast beta [info]ladyra.
Warnings: Violence, as expected from the Master. Suggestive references to what he might have done to Jack on the Valiant.
Disclaimer: Not my lovely characters, just playing with them.

Well, I did get a Dreamwidth free account, mostly to hold the username (joolz) in case it becomes necessary to move there, but I really have no plans to.  lj more than serves my needs at this point.

I also have some invite codes going spare, should anyone still need one.

In other news, I just found out that GeoCities is closing down its web hosting.  Of course, that's where my web site is.  It's not a tragedy, because GeoCities kind of sucked, but just thinking about trying to move all those stories and illustrations and everything to another host - and then what to do about all the pages and stories that have been linked to from other sites - it's daunting and overwhelming.  I'm thinking I'll put off dealing with it until I can't put it off any longer.

On top of that, my laptop died.  It remains to be seen whether I'll be able to get my files off the hard drive, which needless to say I didn't have backed up properly.  *sigh*   Not my best week with technology.

I kept seeing people on my f-list saying, 'Yay, I have a Dreamwidth account,' and wondered what that was.  After looking into it a bit, I'm still not really sure.  Something like livejournal, except you have to be invited to join.  If you're not invited, you can pay to have an account.  So, it's starting off as exclusive and prestige-oriented with moneymaking on the side?  This a good thing?

I've never been keen on exclusive prestige-oriented groups (probably from being picked last for the kickball team too many times), and when money is exchanged for goods or services, then it's business, not just fandom.  I really don't get the point of this when there are already so many options on the interwebs.

I gather it comes as a response to restrictions/deletions/terms of service issues on lj?  Dreamwidth is supposed to be open and welcoming of everyone without oppression or censorship (if you're part of the in-group or pay to join)?  But... It is run and populated by human beings, correct?  That means that issues and conflicts and wank *will* arise.  It *will* be restricted according to USA law.  It's unlikely to be a utopia of creative self expression.  There will probably be arguments and schisms and then someone will move on to make the next *real* ideal on-line community.

I guess yay for the process of forever trying to do it better.  I'm sure wonderful, well-meaning people are working very hard to create something they believe in.  Good on them!   No harshing of squee intended.

I'm not against it, but am very unsure of why I would shell out $ for another account on another on-line community thing.  Maybe I'll see the light.  Never say never...
Mostly, I don't understand why David Tennant had to announce so soon that he was leaving.  There's a year to go with him still!  All the advance notice does is ramp up the fandom wank and angst.  I would much rather the whole thing have been a surprise. As it is, he's rather a lame-duck Doctor now, isn't he, with the Doctor-elect waiting in the wings?

As to the announced Eleven, I understand the disappointment at having another white male Doctor, but done is done, so let's move on.

I have no idea what kind of actor this Matt Smith is, but I don't see his youth per se as a problem.  The Doctor isn't really young, no matter how he looks.  That's my only concern.  Is he a good enough actor to fill out 900 odd years of experience?  I'm reminded of how well Peter Wingfield did playing Methos on Highlander.  I really believed there was layer upon layer to his personality.  Twenty six isn't that young, and I'm willing to give the producers the benefit of the doubt on the casting choice, so let's just wait and see with hopefull optimism. :)

As a Jack/Doctor shipper, I also think it could be interesting.  (Unlike another prominent companion who shall remain nameless) Jack really gets the Doctor, including that who he is, isn't his looks (pretty though they tend to be).  Love the Doctor, love the packaging.  He'd love the Doctor if he had twelve noses and no head.

Again the age thing isn't really an issue.  The Doctor is older than Jack (unless you count the 2,000 years under ground, but that gets confusing), and I can't see Jack being put off by the Doctor looking young.  How into Rose was he, and she was only 19?  Ianto is a wee bairn, too.  Estelle was what, 16, 17?  Not an issue.  I'm looking forward to Jack and Eleven meeting - I'm sure there will be leering involved!

But let's try to enjoy Ten for as long as we have him!

I just love fanfic writers.  They come up with the best shit!

Title:  I Fly
Author:  [livejournal.com profile] salieri
Pairing:  Matt/John

Summary: So, that's why Matt doesn't point out the Human Fly who is currently stalking them from the rooftop across the street. He figures that they'll lose him at the intersection because, while Matt's seen the Human Fly climb up brick walls, he's never seen him actually, you know, fly.

Came across this great TARDIS gif on tumblr. Thought I'd share.

THE ANIMATED GIF APPRECIATION SOCIETY

And this is one I came across that reminded me of Galifreyan script scrolling across the TARDIS' monitor.  (Is it 'you know you watch too much' time?)

Now this I can get behind. ;)
Has anyone been following The Fold ?  That zany soft-core, satirical sci-fi web series?

Personally I love the erotic and the silly, and these folks have got it goin' on!

So, this Friday (9/19) they'll be screening The Fold at The Slipper Room in the East Village, followed by the usual burlesque show.  This sounds like an awesome thing, but my 'normal' friends would not be into it.  (It's bad enough I have Doctor Who action figures.)

Would any NYC fens be interested in hanging out among some jiggly fleshy bits this Friday?   It's a long shot, I know, but it could be a fun time!  LOL

This is a lighthearted and sexy look at all the myriad m/m slash pairings in TW/DW. A little something for everyone. ;)

In case anyone hadn't heard about this, it's the BBC show John Barrowman did looking for a scientific explanation for why he's gay.  I was skeptical at first, but it is in fact awesome.  Trust him not to be involved with anything that isn't!

I was just noticing that one of the local theaters has all six screens filled with genre films:  The Dark Knight, Hellboy II, Journey to the Center of the Earth, The Mummy, Space Chimp (??), and Wall-E.  The theater down the street has X-files and Hancock as well.  We'd better be careful, we're starting to look mainstream!  LOL

Series: Mobile (a series of stand-alone stories that begin with an intergalactic phone call)
Title: A Very Bad Idea
Fandom: Torchwood/Doctor Who
Pairing: Jack/Ten main, Jack/Ianto
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 4,800
Series/Spoilers: Set post TW S2 finale and post DW S4 finale, but no spoilers. SPECULATION about TW S3 casting.
Summary: It was simply disgusting how otherwise intelligent and mature adult beings tended to dissolve into inarticulate simpering just because Jack Harkness deigned to smile at them.
